AMS+ Anti motion sickness immersive experience device
With the metaverse's growth and COVID-19's impact, VR usage has surged for both leisure and professional communication. Yet, VR-induced dizziness remains a hurdle. AMS+ introduces a weak electrical stimulation (GVS) at the mastoid to mitigate this by aligning visual and physical perceptions. This is an industry-academia collaboration project with WiseChip Semiconductor Inc. and TSGS. This conceptual design won the Young Pin Design Award Silver in 2022.

Overview
As organizations normalize distributed and hybrid work, virtual reality (VR) adoption is accelerating beyond entertainment into training, meetings, and everyday collaboration—momentum that intensified during the COVID-19 pandemic. Grand View Research projects the global VR market will reach approximately $48.5 billion by 2025.
At the same time, employee health and safety remain paramount. Research by kinesiology scholar Thomas A. Stoffregen indicates that roughly 40–70% of users may experience motion sickness within 15 minutes of VR exposure. For HR leaders, this underscores the need for evidence‑based usage guidelines, ergonomic standards, and accommodation strategies as VR tools are integrated into the workplace.
AMS+ is a technology-led product concept that applies non-invasive galvanic vestibular stimulation (GVS) to enhance immersion. Inspired by traditional Chinese medicine acupoint theory and grounded in contemporary neurophysiology, the system delivers a precisely controlled, low-amplitude current via electrodes positioned over the mastoid processes behind the ear to gently modulate vestibular input. By reducing visual-vestibular mismatch, AMS+ increases users’ sense of presence and enables a richer, more stable immersive experience.
Design Imagery
Engineered to help alleviate dizziness, the product adopts a streamlined silhouette with gentle, inviting lines—minimal without feeling clinical. A rounded anode electrode and a transparent silicone band present crisp, clean tones, culminating in a visual presence that is quiet, modern, and elegantly understated.
IDEA Sketch & Mock-up
During concept exploration, we evaluated multiple imaginative form factors, including VR-integrated variants. Following cross-functional reviews with partner companies, we converged on a direction that prioritizes design for manufacturability, modularity, and simplicity. The outcome is a back-of-head scoop-clip architecture, complemented by two transparent silicone front straps that hook beneath the ears to improve fit and stability.
Material & Structure
The materials are made of silicone, titanium alloy brackets, and precision plastic injection shells, which are not only visually simply but also comfortable to wear. Minimize the space as much as possible, make the best use of every space, and reduce the burden of wearing.
For example, space designers who often need to discuss with customers can carry a lightweight AMS+ and use VR to show their works to customers. At the same time, make sure that customers don't get dizzy when they appreciate the design.
